Swellings
Swellings are usually a result of infection or injury. They could be accompanied by a toothache, earache or headache. When swelling is present the first and most important thing to do is to locate its source. If infection is the underlying cause, treatment should be tailored to eliminate the bacteria causing the infection. Antibiotics are almost always prescribed, but additional treatment may be required.
At Homestead Dental we take swellings very seriously. They could lead to serious complications if not treated promptly. First, we will take an x-ray(s) to locate the source of the swelling. After this, a complete examination is required to determine if the problem is associated with a tooth, gums or jaw. If the problem is associated with the gums possible resolution of the swelling may be achieved by an antibiotic prescription. If the swelling is accompanied by a toothache a proper treatment of the tooth is also required. Depending on the diagnosis, Dr. Chakalov will recommend treatment(s) which will resolve your problem and have you back to regular activity as soon as possible.
